Juice Jam provides campus with different musical experience

This year’s Juice Jam, featuring Girl Talk, Jack’s Mannequin and The Cool Kids, provides the annual outdoor concert with a musically diverse lineup that is sure to bring an impressive turnout.

Girl Talk alone should attract a huge crowd. Ever since his unique and entertaining ‘mash-ups’ exploded onto the music scene, he has acquired quite a fan base, most commonly found in a house party. His previous performances in upstate New York have been successful, attracting Syracuse University students to travel off the Hill to the shows at Ithaca and Cortland.

Girl Talk has made a name for himself by taking mainstream music and adding a twist. He is essentially several Top 40 acts wrapped up into one. He is notoriously energetic, allowing the audience to come on stage while performing an abridged striptease.

Juice Jam is scheduled for the same day as the Video Music Awards on Sept. 13 but this should not have a real effect on the satisfaction from the campus, considering

Jack’s Mannequin caters to a different audience, providing a balance to the overall show. The Cool Kids are fresh faces and their mix of hip-hop and rock is sure to appeal to a wide-range of students despite the fact that their lack of a household name.

Juice Jam’s attempt to mix it up from the usual laid-back, hippy vibe should attract more of a specific fan base and yield positive results. Tickets go on sale today for this diverse musical event.
