Men’s soccer falls in opener
The Syracuse men’s soccer team opened the 2009 season with a 3-2 loss to Binghamton in Vestal, N.Y on Tuesday night. The loss snapped the Orange’s 20-game unbeaten streak against non-conference opponents, the longest active streak in the nation. The Orange (0-1) scored the first goal of the game at the 24:36 mark of the first half. Freshman midfielder Mark Brode found junior midfielder Geoff Lytle open inside the box. Lytle then slipped the ball to senior forward Tom Perevegyencev, who put the ball inside the upper left corner of the net. SU maintained the 1-0 advantage until the start of the second half, when the two teams combined for three goals in the first 10 minutes of the period. With the score tied at two late in the game, the Bearcats scored the game-winner in the 80th minute. Sophomore forward Andy Tiedt re-directed a Binghamton corner kick into the Orange goal. The corner kick was taken by Kyle Kucharski, who assisted on all three Binghamton goals. The Orange looks to rebound in the home opener, when it hosts Cornell Saturday at 7 p.m. — Compiled by Asst.
