The Orange harriers raced in the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational on Friday in Madison, Wis. The women’s team finished sixth out of 44 teams and the men’s team finished 22nd out of 39 teams.

Leading the women’s team for the third straight race this season was senior Lauren Penney (13th, 20:27). Penney’s placement, along with strong finishes from freshman Shaylyn Tuite (27th, 20:46) and junior Sarah Pagano (30th, 20:48), helped secure a second-place finish amongst Big East competitors. Villanova, which finished fourth overall, was the only Big East team that placed higher than Syracuse.

Seniors Heather Stephens (82nd, 21:12) and Natalie Busby (121st, 21:28) also contributed to the team’s top-10 finish.

The men’s team, led by senior Pat Dupont (63rd, 24:36), had a slightly disappointing finish.

Although the overall finish wasn’t what was expected, the Orange placed fourth amongst Big East teams, showing it is a threat within the conference. Providence (ninth), Villanova (10th) and Notre Dame (19th) were the only three Big East schools to place higher than the SU men’s team.

Senior Tito Medrano (97th, 24:48), sophomore Joe Whelan (100th, 24:50) and junior Forrest Misenti (106th, 24:51) all finished together to contribute to the team’s placement.

The Orange runners next race is Friday, Oct. 21, at the John Reif Memorial in Ithaca, N.Y. This will be the team’s final meet before competing for the Big East title.
