STAFF : Ross earns 400th career win as Syracuse softball sweeps 4 games on weekend

With a 2-0 win over Jacksonville on Friday, Syracuse coach Leigh Ross earned her 400th career win early in the FAU Parents’ Weekend Tournament. Ross’ win total continued to climb throughout the weekend, as Syracuse won four consecutive games to win the tournament title.

The Orange (17-8) defeated Jacksonville twice and defeated host Florida Atlantic twice in Boca Raton, Fla.

Strong pitching helped SU to the victories. Senior pitcher Jenna Caira outdueled Jacksonville pitcher Sarah Sigrest in the first of four weekend wins. In that game, Caira struck out nine in a complete game shutout and surrendered only three hits.

Caira one-hit FAU in the fourth game – a 4-0 SU win. She has won her last 10 decisions and now holds a 13-3 record on the season.

Junior Stacy Kuwik and freshman Lindsay Taylor also contributed to the strong pitching weekend. Taylor earned her first career win and held opponents hitless on the weekend.

The Orange will play next weekend in an unusual spot: the Carrier Dome. The Orange will play two games against Canisius and Colgate indoors in the first Dome games in SU softball history.
