Jersey Shore star “Snooki” begins to grow up with arrival of baby Lorenzo

The One That Got Away / The Daily Orange

Motherhood. If I were writing this about 60 years ago, all of us ladies would be expected to be right at the cusp of bringing up babies. Young women would have their husbands all picked out, along with mortgage payments.

One 24-year-old reality star is right where the traditional 1950s girl would’ve been. Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi popped out her son, Lorenzo Dominic LaValle, on Aug. 26. The “Jersey Shore” star, best known for her first-season bar brawl and tendency to show off her “cooka,” is now in charge of a very fragile human life, along with her fiance Jionni LaValle.

MTV also announced last week that the upcoming sixth season of “Jersey Shore” would be the show’s last. Although Polizzi’s spin-off show “Snooki and JWOWW” has been renewed for a second season, the reality star won’t be getting down at Seaside Heights dance club Karma anymore with the rest of her “Shore” gang.

Although Polizzi is a reality star paid millions of dollars to hang out at the Jersey Shore, we all have something in common with her right now. The Marlboro, N.Y., native has just taken on a lot of responsibility. She’s probably trying to make sense out the twists and turns that come with adulthood while making everything up as she goes. That’s something a lot of us are doing, although most of us without the baby.

It’s pretty hard for someone to separate from the kid he or she was and see the adult he or she has to become. And whether you’re a reality star or a college student, you’re going to run into some of the same obstacles.

Last year, Polizzi was probably doing vodka shots with her roommates. Now, she has to feed her baby and plan a wedding.

That’s a lot of change in a very small amount of time. There aren’t any books explaining the easiest transformation from giant-slipper-and-leopard-print-wearing party girl to responsible wife, mother and businesswoman.

I’ll definitely want one of those non-existent, self-help books when I finally move from the Staten Island home I grew up in to some scary New York City apartment.

Polizzi is dealing with her new stage in life the way anyone growing up in the age of social media would: by tweeting about it. She tweeted her first picture of baby Lorenzo on Sept. 3 to her almost 5.7 million followers.

Although Polizzi waited over a week to tweet out a photo of her baby, that doesn’t mean she hasn’t been sharing other Twitpics since the birth. Almost all of her photos since Aug. 26 have been of herself. We’ve seen that Polizzi can fit into heels again. She’s slowly getting her “swag” back. But the girl that became famous for her “poof” doesn’t have time for her hair right now.

Polizzi’s social media image seems ridiculous and easy to mock. She clearly doesn’t need to share as many photos of leopard print anything or nude lip gloss as she does.

But most young adults in the 21st century are just kids at heart. When we leave school and join the real world, I’m willing to bet we’ll still be Instagramming overly artistic photos of our lunches, friends and skylines. Our first move after having kids will probably be trying on our favorite pair of heels again, too.

So, don’t expect to see a Polizzi as the Holy Madonna anytime soon.
