Manley, Millman lead Syracuse field hockey to win over Stanford; Orange women’s soccer suffers 2 road losses

The No. 1 Syracuse field hockey team rebounded from its first loss of the season to beat No. 13 Stanford 4-1 on Friday afternoon at Garber Field in Amherst, Mass.

Alyssa Manley and Kelsey Millman scored two goals each to lead the Orange (13-1, 4-0 Big East). Ange Bradley recorded her 100th win as head coach at Syracuse, a day after the Orange’s undefeated season came to an end in its 2-1 loss to Massachusetts.

The Cardinal (9-5) opened the scoring with a goal by Becky Dru just more than 12 minutes into the game. In the 27th minute, Alyssa Manley dribbled into the shooting circle and fired a shot through the legs of Stanford goaltender Dulcie Davies to tie the game.

In the 56th minute, Millman put the Orange ahead by redirecting a centering pass from Gillian Pinder into the back of the net. Five minutes later, Millman added an insurance goal from close range, assisted by Leonie Geyer, for a 3-1 lead.

With less than four minutes remaining, Manley capped off the scoring with a goal, also assisted by Geyer. Manley has four goals on the season.

The Orange will return to Big East play on Friday when it takes on Georgetown in College Park, Md.
