Julie Knerr’s game-winning goal just minutes into overtime avenged Syracuse’s tie in its previous matchup with Rochester Institute of Technology.

The Orange (6-5-1, 3-0-1 College Hockey America) beat RIT 2-1 in overtime at Tennity Ice Pavilion Tuesday night. SU outshot the Tigers (6-5-2, 1-3-2) 31- 19 over more than 60 minutes of ice time. The visitors spent much of that time shorthanded, committing seven penalties compared to SU’s three.

Yet SU didn’t capitalize on the power play until the final minute of regulation. After pulling goalie Kallie Billadeau for an extra skater, the Orange played RIT 6-on-3 for 12 seconds before Shiann Darkangelo tied the game 1-1 with 54 seconds remaining.

SU took that surge of momentum into the extra period and made quick work of the visitors.

Syracuse fired a pair of shots on goal before Knerr’s game-winner – assisted by Kaillie Goodnough and Allie LaCombe – capped a wild finish Tuesday night.

The Orange faces a quick turnaround after Thanksgiving, facing Rensselaer Friday at 7 p.m. and again Saturday at 4 p.m. at Tennity.
