Transforming a college dorm room from what is generally a small, “white box” to a student’s home away from home isn’t always an easy task, but since Syracuse University students are required to live on-campus their first two years, students have learned to embrace their interior decorating styles. See how these four students took that opportunity and decorated their rooms as an extension of their personalities.

“Our floor is 66 people, and 58 of them are girls, so our boys are held up to a pretty high standard, and we’re trying to be the top of that. So we keep our room pretty clean and try to have it very pleasant to be in.”

“My mom is an interior designer, so she definitely influenced the decorating of my room. Being an artist, I have to be in a bright environment, because it’s used to create. In my room at home, whenever it’s messy or dark, it’s hard to be in there. I always have to have a bright desk for inspiration.”

“I have a large stuffed animal lion on my bed, so I can lean on it like a big body pillow. My room is kind of like avant-garde, really colorful and there’s an eclectic mix of what’s going on in there. Everyone always walks into my room and says, ‘Oh, are you artsy or what?’”
