Freshman O’Hara leads trio of Syracuse’s All-ACC selections
Syracuse freshman Sydney O’Hara was named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference first team Thursday, while seniors Jasmine Watson and Shirley Daniels were named to the third team.
O’Hara was one of two freshmen on the 10-woman first team, becoming the first SU freshman to be named first-team all conference since 2006 and third in program history. She ranks first on the Orange in wins (16), ERA (3.74) and strikeouts (157). At the plate, O’Hara leads the team in doubles (14) and second in batting average (.338) and hits (49).
Watson made her third all-conference team of her career after tying the SU single-season home-run mark with 16 and setting the all-time program record – then 38, now 46 – back on April 2. She also leads the Orange in RBIs (44) and slugging percentage (.682).
Daniels made her second-straight all-conference team after leading the team with 24 stolen bases, good for second in the ACC. Her 72nd career stolen base on March 15 broke the program record, and she also leads the Orange in runs scored (33).
No. 6-seed Syracuse faces third-seeded Virginia Tech in the quarterfinals of the ACC tournament Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in College Park, Md.
