On Wednesday afternoon, 16 student organizations gathered on the Quad to begin setting up their wooden shacks for Shack-A-Thon, a yearly event that raises money for Habitat for Humanity and raises awareness about the lack of affordable housing in the country.
Ray Marek, a sophomore international relations and broadcast journalism major, Carina Rankine, a junior civil engineering major, and Marvi Najam, a psych major, build the ESF shack.

Serena DeSeta, a freshmen dual public relations and management major, and Sam Sinykin, a communication and rhetorical studies major, work on the Orange Seeds shack, a freshman leadership program on campus.

Habitat for Humanity provides spray paint, paintbrushes, and other supplies for Shack-A-Thon participants to use for decoration on the quad. "Putting the event on the Quad forces people on campus to face the issue of lack of affordable housing both in Syracuse and across the country," Executive Director Marvi Najam said.
