Some summer jobs require uniforms of visors and non-slip shoes that leave workers with no chance of appearing even somewhat stylish; sophomore magazine major Chloe Anello’s job this past summer had the opposite effect. Anello worked at J.Crew, a longtime favorite store of hers and a major influence on her style.

With employee discounts at J.Crew and sister brand Madewell, it’s no surprise that Anello is wearing a J.Crew blouse and statement necklace and Madewell waxed denim pants. Anello’s booties are from Sperry Top-Sider.

Anello describes her style as preppy, but still trendy with an urban edge. She likes button-downs, sweaters and statement necklaces — all staples of the classic J.Crew look — but pairs them with black and leather pieces to balance out the outfit.

To achieve a similar look, don’t be afraid to mix styles. Combine bohemian and classic, girly and rocker chic, preppy and edgy, or a little bit of everything. Customize your style to make it perfect for you. And if you can score a job working at your favorite store, that certainly doesn’t hurt.
