Former Syracuse volleyball star Carrie Urton McCaw died in a car crash in Missouri on Friday morning. McCaw’s 12-year-old daughter and two others were also killed.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the head-on crash occurred on Highway 40 near Lake Saint Louis, and McCaw was traveling to a weekend volleyball tournament in Kansas City.

McCaw graduated from Syracuse in 1998 and made the honor roll every semester. She’s second all-time in matches played and third in assists. In her senior year, she was named team MVP and finished her career as the program’s leader in  assists.

In a news release, SU Athletics confirmed McCaw’s passing. Her daughter Kacey — as well as Lesley Prather, 44, and Rhyan Prather, 12 — also died in the crash.

McCaw’s friends and family will remember her joyous energy and positivity.
