Syracuse forward Chris Bell will enter the transfer portal, On3’s Joe Tipton reported on Saturday. The junior started in 95 games with the Orange across three seasons, averaging 9.4 points per game. Bell is the last person from Jim Boeheim’s 2022 recruiting class to leave the program. He joins Judah Mintz, Quadir Copeland, Maliq Brown, Peter Carey and Justin Taylor, who all departed last offseason.
During his time with Syracuse, Bell became known as a knockdown 3-point shooter. A four-star recruit, Bell started every game during Boeheim’s last season with SU. He averaged 6.6 points per game but knocked down 3s at a 34.5% clip. Bell then became one of the best shooters in the Atlantic Coast Conference as a sophomore, connecting on 42% of his triples while scoring 12 points per game.
Bell was expected to have a breakout junior season but struggled mightily initially. Through the first 13 games of the season, he was shooting a measly 21.6% from 3. That led SU head coach Adrian Autry to bring him off the bench for the first time in his career against Florida State on Jan. 4.
The forward came off the bench for the rest of the season, and his shooting numbers increased, although his minutes and production were still a cry from his sophomore season. He finished the year with 9.3 points per game averaging 21.5 minutes.
Bell is the second Syracuse player to enter the portal this offseason following Kyle Cuffe Jr.
