Syracuse’s Iaunia Pointer sets school record in 200-meter at USF Alumni Invitational

In Syracuse’s first outdoor meet of the season, the USF Alumni Invitational in Tampa, Florida, Iaunia Pointer set the school record in the women’s 200-meter. The Southern Illinois transfer finished second overall with a time of 23.28 seconds, beating Alison Culley’s previous school record time of 23.33, which was set in 2001.

The Orange also found success in the men’s 4×100 relay, crossing eighth in 40.65 seconds. SU’s team was headlined by wide receiver Darrell Gill Jr. alongside running backs Malachi Coleman and Malachi James and sprinter James Nmah.

The meet wrapped up with the men’s 100-meter race. James led the Syracuse sprinters, posting 29th with a time of 10.65 seconds. Gill followed in 32nd place, clocking 10.68 seconds, while Nmah placed 39th in 10.79 seconds. Rounding out the group, Coleman finished 41st overall in 10.84 seconds.

In the women’s 4×100 relay, the team of Pointer, Olivia Garner, Kahniya James and Peyton Rollins came in 11th overall in 46.03.

Elsewhere, Xayvion Perkins got the season started in the men’s 400-meter hurdles, placing 5th overall (51.47). In the women’s 400-meter hurdles, Madison Ceasar came in 30th in 1:03.

Nmah’s 200-meter dash time of 21.78 put him in the top half of the field at 49th.

In the Women’s 100 meter hurdles, Taleea Buxton and Rollins both placed in the top 5, coming in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Four SU athletes competed in the men’s 110-meter hurdles. Emanuel Joseph finished 13th (14.31 seconds), Naseem Smith placed 17th (14.49 seconds), David Peters took 18th (14.58 seconds) and Isaiah Lewis crossed 19th (14.59 seconds).
