Syracuse women’s lacrosse has been ranked No. 8 in the Inside Lacrosse Week 6 Poll, which was released Monday. The Orange dropped two spots following a 14-13 overtime loss to then-No. 7 Johns Hopkins and a 17-11 win over Pitt.

SU entered the week coming off a thrilling 14-13 double-overtime win over then-No. 6 Stanford to jump up four spots and move to 4-3 on the year. After splitting this week’s games, the Orange remain over the .500 mark and are 2-2 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.

To start the week, Syracuse hosted Johns Hopkins. The Orange were in the driver’s seat for much of the contest, but the Blue Jays stormed back, much from the success of star attacker Ava Angello’s six goals. SU didn’t trail for the first 58 minutes but allowed late goals to send the game to overtime. It later surrendered the game-winner on the first possession of the extra period to seal its fate.

A few days later, the Orange traveled to Pittsburgh to face Pitt. The Panthers entered on a three-game win streak but gave Syracuse a chance for a victory, being the first opponent in six games to be unranked. Despite leading scorer Emma Ward’s season-low two points, SU rallied off a 5-0 run after an hour-long lightning delay to command the contest. Syracuse only trailed 1-0 despite a late Pitt push, clinching its second win in conference play.

In the Inside Lacrosse Poll, the Orange were surpassed by Stanford and Johns Hopkins. SU next faces No. 17 Loyola, followed by No. 21 Notre Dame.
