Syracuse women’s rowing dropped from No. 10 to No. 11 in the Pocock Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Poll, which was released Tuesday. The Orange were ranked 10th in the preseason poll and last week’s edition before Tuesday’s drop.
The fall comes after SU triumphed in seven of its 11 races at the B1G/ACC/Ivy Dual on Saturday against No. 10 Michigan, No. 12 Penn, and No. 15 Ohio State in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Syracuse nearly swept OSU in its afternoon slate, winning five of six races. In the morning, the Orange’s 2V4 and 2V8 defeated the Wolverines and Quakers, earning them two victories in five contests.
SU’s second varsity 8 was especially impressive and was rewarded with ACC Crew of the Week honors. Against Michigan’s (6:43.97) and Penn’s (6:47.41) 2V8 squads, Syracuse clocked in at 6:37.0 for a margin near-seven second margin of victory. In the afternoon, the Orange finished the second varsity 8 race at 6:28.6 with the Buckeyes trailing by almost eight seconds at 6:36.5.
SU’s 2V8 featured senior coxswain April Serrano. One-seat Ella McKinley and eighth-seat Clothilde Marcelot were the lone freshmen on board, as they made their NCAA debuts in the ACC’s best boat of the week.
Syracuse and its three opponents all dropped one spot in this week’s poll due to the emergence of No. 9 Rutgers, which jumped four spots following a demolition of Penn in a head-to-head regatta at the B1G/ACC/Ivy Dual. SU currently trails ACC foes No. 2 Stanford and No. 8 Cal, ranking third in the conference.
The Orange are now 11 days out from the Cayuga Cup in Saratoga Springs, New York, where they’ll take on No. 6 Yale and unranked Cornell.
