Former Boston College defensive tackle George Rooks has transferred to Syracuse, he announced on social media Saturday. Rooks is the son of former SU defensive lineman George Rooks, who earned Big East Co-Defensive Player of the Year honors in 1991.

In two years with the Eagles, the Jersey City, New Jersey, native recorded 51 tackles and 2.5 sacks. Out of high school, he was the No. 7 ranked player in New Jersey’s 2021 class. Rooks originally signed with Michigan and spent two seasons with the Wolverines, redshirting his freshman season in 2021.

After recording just one tackle in 2022, Rooks made the switch to BC for his redshirt sophomore and junior seasons. Rooks is a 6-foot-5, 282-pound interior lineman who adds strength to SU’s defensive line.

With the Orange recently losing freshman All-American Maraad Watson to Texas and Fadil Diggs to the NFL Draft, Rooks joins a core including Dion Wilson Jr. and Marshall transfer Chris Thomas.
