Syracuse attack Emma Ward is among the 25 nominees for the Women’s Tewaaraton Award, the organization announced Thursday. The award is given to the country’s best player in college lacrosse each year.

In her fifth season with the Orange, Ward has cemented herself as a program legend. Through 15 games, she’s accumulated 68 points, the 22nd-best mark in the country. Ward has 27 goals and 41 assists, which ranks 12th in the country. The graduate student has largely run Syracuse’s offense this season, with no other player within 32 assists or points of her totals.

With another strong season, Ward is creeping up SU’s program leaderboards. Her first assist Thursday against No. 2 Boston College will mark her 165th for her career and make her the Orange’s all-time leader in the category, passing Katie Rowan Thomson. Ward has also vaulted into seventh place all-time with 316 points, 19 fewer than Christina Dove, who sits sixth.

The graduate student was the lone SU player within the top 25 after she was joined by Olivia Adamson as a preseason nominee, and Coco Vandiver was added midway through the season. The list is headlined by five BC players, while North Carolina has four. From the group, five finalists will be announced on May 8, and a winner will be chosen on May 29.
