Four players for No. 12 Syracuse (9-5, 2-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) were named to the 2025 All-ACC Team, the ACC announced Tuesday. Attacks Joey Spallina and Owen Hiltz, midfielder Sam English and goalie Jimmy McCool were listed on the 19-player team. It’s the most All-ACC honorees the Orange have had since 2019, when they had six players named to the team.
Spallina put together an impressive junior season, tallying 29 goals and leading the Orange with 42 assists in 14 games. His 3.0 assists per game is the second-best mark in Division I, while his 5.07 points per game ranks seventh. Spallina’s signature moment of the 2025 season came against then-No. 18 Colgate, when he became the first SU player since Casey Powell in 1997 to notch 11 points in a game.
Hiltz also powered the Orange’s offense this season, recording a team-high 34 goals and 22 assists. The senior has logged six hat tricks as his offseason development has contributed to success, including four-goal performances in Syracuse’s win over then-No. 7 Johns Hopkins and loss versus No. 1 Cornell.
In his sixth year of collegiate lacrosse, English has been Syracuse’s Swiss Army knife, making an impact on offense, defense and the man-down units. The Canadian has totaled 19 goals and 10 assists, while also adding 41 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers. Despite SU losing its third consecutive game versus No. 8 North Carolina Saturday, English recorded a season-high five points in a matchup against his younger brother, Ty, who’s a midfielder for the Tar Heels.
In his first year as a starter, McCool grew into his role between the pipes over the course of the season. Following an inconsistent start, the redshirt sophomore was benched in the Orange’s loss to then-No. 15 Harvard on Feb. 22. However, that performance has proved to be an anomaly. It was one of two games in which McCool posted a sub-.500 save percentage. He’s averaged a .559 save percentage, which is 16th-best in the nation. In SU’s four ACC games, the netminder averaged 14.5 stops, earning him the ACC Goalie of the Year.
