Former Syracuse offensive lineman Enrique Cruz Jr. is transferring to Kansas, 247Sports reported Friday. Cruz entered the transfer portal on April 18, continuing to diminish the Orange’s depth at offensive tackle after David Wohlabaugh Jr. hit the portal that same day.

Cruz played in just three games this past season as a redshirt junior after starting in all 13 of the Orange’s contests in 2023. He totaled 24 appearances at SU, primarily at left tackle, and made 18 starts across three seasons on its active roster. His lone season under head coach Fran Brown was the only campaign he didn’t make a start besides his redshirt year in 2021.

After his entry to the portal over a week ago, Cruz got a three-star transfer rating by 247Sports, making him one of the better offensive linemen in the transfer portal before his commitment Friday.

The 6-foot-6, 319-pound tackle adds a solid piece to the Jayhawks’ trenches, though he’ll need plenty of development to reach his ceiling — especially after jumping from the Atlantic Coast Conference to the Big 12, arguably a superior league.

Cruz leaves SU with fewer options on its exterior offensive line, but it shored up the interior with the addition of Louisville guard Austin Collins on April 19. Tackles like Da’Metrius Weatherspoon, who’s moving from left to right tackle, and Trevion Mack, who will likely play left tackle, appear set to protect the edges this upcoming season.

The spring continues to be busy for the Orange. Brown’s program has seen key losses such as defensive lineman Maraad Watson’s move to Texas and star wide receiver Trebor Peña’s stunning decision to enter the transfer portal. Syracuse has recently earned high-profile commitments, though, currently headlined by Notre Dame transfer quarterback Steve Angeli.
