Syracuse offensive lineman Enrique Cruz Jr. has entered the transfer portal, On3 reported Friday. The redshirt senior started every game at left tackle in 2023 but appeared in just three games in Fran Brown’s first season as the Orange’s head coach.
Under Brown and Co., Cruz played a reduced role as transfers Da’Metrius Weatherspoon and Savion Washington took over at tackle. His only playing time in 2024 came against Ohio, Stanford and Holy Cross, playing 33 snaps.
The production was a stark drop from Cruz’s 803 snaps in 2023, where he allowed zero sacks to Garrett Shrader, Carlos Del-Rio Wilson and even Dan Villari in the wildcat at times. His first starts came the year prior, when he started five games at both tackle positions.
Cruz was a significant get for the Orange in the 2021 class. He was their top player and only four-star recruit, according to 247Sports. With Cruz’s exit coming directly after David Wohlabaugh Jr.’s, Syracuse will test its offensive line depth with Trevion Mack at left tackle, Weatherspoon at right tackle and Alabama transfer Naquil Betrand as a viable option off the bench.
