Former Oregon State guard Nate Kingz has committed to Syracuse, he announced in a social media post Wednesday. A 6-foot-5 guard, Kingz is SU’s second pickup from the transfer portal after William Kyle III committed Thursday.
Kingz has just one year of Division I basketball under his belt. He spent his first two collegiate seasons at the junior college level, playing for Westmont College and College of Southern Idaho. At Westmont, Kingz was the Golden State Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year after averaging 18.6 points per game. A year later at Southern Idaho, he averaged 16.5 points. Following two successful JUCO seasons, Kingz transferred to Oregon State but tore his ACL and missed the entire 2023-24 season.
Once he was healthy this year, Kingz was a solid piece for Oregon State. He was the Beavers’ best 3-point shooter, sinking a team-high 58 triples, connecting on 44.6% of them — one of the best rates in the country. Kingz was also OSU’s third-leading scorer, averaging 11.8 points per game in 27.6 minutes on average.
Kingz immediately boosts Syracuse’s perimeter shooting, which took a hit this offseason. Chris Bell entered the transfer portal and Lucas Taylor graduated. Bell led SU with 47 3s last season, while Taylor sank 32, the third most.
