Syracuse men’s rowing spent the weekend in Lake Morey, Vermont, where it lost the Packard Cup while claiming the Conlan Cup. SU lost to No. 6 Dartmouth but also swept No. 14 Georgetown and No. 12 Boston University.
On Saturday, the Orange V8 faced Dartmouth, losing by 5.26 seconds. They finished the two-kilometer course with a time of 5:42.81. The V8 boat was coxswained by senior Joseph Biondolillo with the lineup unchanged from when the Orange went undefeated in Annapolis on April 19. The loss awarded the Packard Cup to Dartmouth for the first time since 2022. Dartmouth has now won 32 of the 63 contests between itself and SU.
The second, third and fourth varsity boats also fell by 2.6, 4.58 and 3.5 seconds, respectively. The 2V8 boat went unchanged from last weekend, while the 3V8 boat didn’t feature any new rowers but had a couple seat changes. The 4V8 boat featured two new rowers with freshmen Jack Caldwell and Jack Walker making their Syracuse debuts.
Syracuse bounced back to sweep Saturday afternoon’s session against Georgetown. V8 defeated the Hoyas by 9.2 seconds with a time of 5:43.6. 2V8 cruised with a time of 5:48.7, winning by 18.2 seconds. 3V8 raced against both BU and Georgetown, finishing 2.7 seconds ahead of the Terriers and 17.8 seconds ahead of the Hoyas for the win. 4V8 beat Dartmouth’s 5V8 by 12.5 seconds with a time of 5:58.9.
On Sunday, the Orange returned to their winning ways as V8 claimed the Conlan Cup with a 2.9-second win over BU. The Orange finished with a time of 5:44.4. The Conlan Cup was established in 1987 and is named after the founder of BU’s rowing program. Syracuse’s win marked its fourth straight. 2V8 also defeated BU by 5.5 seconds with a time of 5:47.1. 3V8 narrowly won by 3.7 seconds with a time of 5:48.7, and 4V8 capped off the weekend with a victory, completing a sweep over the Terriers.
The Orange will have a couple weeks off and are scheduled to return to action on May 18 for the Eastern Sprints in Worcester, Massachusetts.
