SU notches 3 1st-place finishes in Cortland Red Dragon Open, Stanford Invitational

Syracuse track and field traveled to Cortland, New York, and Palo Alto, California, to compete in the Cortland Red Dragon Open and Stanford Invite this weekend.
Heidi Demeo opened the Stanford Invite with a 4:23.15 time in the women’s 1,500-meter, placing 13th.
In the men’s 5K, Ben Gabelman led the way with a fourth-place finish in his heat with a 13:49.44 time. Sam Ricchiuti also competed, clocking in at 14:06.99.
In the women’s 10K, Emma Eastman led the Orange in her heat to a top-10 finish with a 32:47.21 time. Rylie Lusk followed behind Eastman, running it in 33:13.56. Savannah Roark placed just behind in 33:22.60. In the next heat, Nyah Hernandez notched a 34:45.44 time.
In heat No. 1 of the men’s 10K, Sam Lawler’s 28:21.08 time placed him 21st. Assaf Harari finished 27th with a 28:23.69 time. In heat No. 2, Perry Mackinnon posted a 28:43.13 time.
In the Cortland Red Dragon Open, Grace Finnegan placed first with a 4:44.16 time in the women’s 1500-meter final. Leah Futey was just a stride behind, finishing under a second later to place second. Meanwhile, freshman Lauren Augustyn clocked in at 4:48.57.
Then, Beatriz Fernandes (4:51.03) and Olivia Shattuck (4:51.11) placed fourth and fifth, respectively, securing SU the top five finishes. Lucy Zombek and Kayla Harding also contributed solid efforts, finishing in 5:21.21 and 5:36.97, respectively.
James Nmah finished 27th in the men’s long jump with a jump of 16 feet and eight inches.
The Orange took another clean sweep in the men’s 110-meter hurdles with Emanuel Joseph, Isaiah Hayes and David Peters finishing first, second and third.
In the women’s 100-meter hurdles, Madison Ceasar’s 14.11 time earned a second-place finish. Marissa Saunders placed fifth with a 15.42 time.
In the men’s 100-meter dash, freshman Omar Alsaidi led Syracuse with a 12.06 time, placing 45th. Solomon Holden-Betts followed in 53rd with a time of 12.43, and Julian Franjieh rounded out the Orange sprinters in 60th, finishing in 12.97.
Shayla Ford finished first for the Orange in the women’s 400-meter dash with a 58.59 time. Mia Hernandez also finished seventh with a 1:02.13 time.
In the women’s 800-meter run, freshman Blake Parker led the way for Syracuse with a 2:24.57 time, placing third. Senior Emily Rutkowski followed close behind in fourth, clocking in at 2:26.53. Freshman Maya Dubrovsky (2:31.93) rounded out the Orange with an 11th-place finish.
