Former Syracuse women’s basketball assistant coach Ty Evans was hired as the associate head coach at DePaul, the school announced Monday.
Evans is the second SU assistant coach to leave the program this offseason after Kristen Sharkey was named as the University at Buffalo’s head coach on April 18.
Evans spent one season with the Orange, where he focused on coaching defense and the post unit. He helped forward Kyra Wood up her scoring from 6.1 points per game to 11.6 points per game and center Izabel Varejão increase her points per game from 5.7 to 6.8 and her rebounds per game from 3.2 to 5.0.
Under Evans, SU dominated the offense boards, securing 14.5 per game — the 25th-best in Division I in 2024-25. The Orange also recorded 4.4 blocks per game, which ranked fourth in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Evans joins the Blue Demons as newly-hired head coach Jill Pizzotti’s top assistant coach. Evans previously worked with Pizzotti during his first coaching job at Saint Louis from 2001 to 2005. After his time with the Billikens, Evans was an assistant coach at Georgetown, Alabama and Auburn before serving as Tennessee State’s head coach from 2020 to 2024.
As a player, Evans was a two-time All-American with Division III Wisconsin-Whitewater before playing professionally in Norway and Taiwan.
