Syracuse women’s lacrosse (9-7, 5-4 Atlantic Coast) dropped another spot to No. 17 in Monday’s Week 11 Inside Lacrosse Poll. The dip comes after the Orange were demolished by No. 2 Boston College 17-2 on Thursday in the worst loss under head coach Kayla Treanor.

After starting the season as the No. 6 team in the country and fluctuating within the top 10 for much of the campaign, SU has seen a steep drop off in the last three weeks. It was ranked No. 6 in Week 8 but then fell to No. 11, No. 16 and now to No. 17 after losses to then-No. 13 Yale, Virginia Tech and now BC.

SU’s loss to the Eagles marked a new low for the program. From the jump, BC pounced on the Orange, scoring 12 unanswered goals before Syracuse could score — which came 41 minutes in. Boston College entered halftime up 10-0, the first time Syracuse was held scoreless in the first half since April 11, 2010 in a 6-5 loss to then-No. 15 Notre Dame. BC didn’t let up in the second half, as Syracuse was embarrassed.

The main issue was Syracuse’s defense. The unit consistently let the Eagles’ trio of Rachel Clark, Mckenna Davis and Emma LoPinto get space in front of goalie Daniella Guyette for easy scores. Clark finished with a career-high eight goals, while Davis added seven points. As a result, Guyette posted her worst save percentage of the year at .200.

On offense, BC goalie Shea Dolce stuffed SU’s offense. Syracuse flung three fewer shots than the Eagles. But Dolce made 12 saves while amassing a season-high .857 save percentage.

The Orange now turn their sights to the ACC Tournament, which begins Wednesday. No. 6 seed SU will open against No. 3 seed Stanford. If it wins, another battle versus BC is likely in the semifinals.
