Syracuse women’s lacrosse (9-8, 5-4 Atlantic Coast) stayed at No. 17 in Monday’s Week 12 Inside Lacrosse Poll. The ranking is one of SU’s worst in recent memory and comes amid its three-game losing streak.
In the regular season, the Orange went 9-7 with a 5-4 record in the ACC. Their final game capped the season with an embarrassing display as they fell to Boston College 17-2 after the Eagles went on a 12-0 run to start the game. The loss cemented the No. 6 seed in the conference tournament and the No. 17 ranking in the Inside Lacrosse Poll.
In Charlotte, SU seemed to have started fresh from its past woes. Following a 4-1 deficit to begin the game, Syracuse climbed back with a dominant 7-0 run to flip the game on its head. Its draw control unit and defense held Stanford out of the net for nearly 16 minutes. Then, the Cardinal adjusted, and the Orange went cold the rest of the way.
Syracuse scored just two goals across the final 42 minutes while Stanford found a rhythm and never looked back. SU goalie Daniella Guyette played abysmally in the net, as her defense did her no favors. The Cardinal went on to win 15-10, advancing to the ACC Tournament Semifinal while the Orange were sent packing.
With the conference tournament over, SU now waits to see its fate for the NCAA Tournament. Despite its worst record under fourth-year head coach Kayla Treanor, the Orange are likely to make the national tournament due to their No. 1-ranked strength of schedule and No. 13-ranked RPI, according to Lacrosse Reference.
The selection show is May 4, while the opening round game would be May 9.
