Two semesters.

That is how long it took me to realise that I needed to join the Daily Orange. This place was not
large on my radar when I first came to Syracuse. In the chaos of moving across the country,
finding friends and building community, the university paper that I’d heard about during my first
week wasn’t something I was thinking much about past a vague “oh, I should probably look into
that later.”

I have now finished two semesters as an in-house staff member, and it is one of the best
decisions I’ve ever made. Working here has taught me more than I could ever have imagined,
and through the Daily Orange, I have met some of the most amazing human beings I’ve ever
had the pleasure of knowing.

Lars Jendruschewitz: Thank you so much for convincing me to apply. I hope you know that I will never stop being grateful for your advice, your support, and your presence. You are a
wonderful coworker and a fantastic friend, and I have so much respect for you. I look forward to
watching your growth and, undoubtedly, your success.

Solange Jain: I hope you know that you are one of the most genuinely delightful people I have ever had the luck of befriending. From day one, you have been so kind and so supportive, and I
appreciate you beyond words. I cannot explain how much I respect you— as a person, as a
photographer, and as a friend. It is a blessing to be able to grow alongside you, and I’m so
grateful to be allowed to cheer and support you as you continue to succeed.

Flynn Ledoux: Savior of the paper? Undoubtedly. Flynn, you are truly one of the people that made me feel most welcomed within The Daily Orange, and I cannot thank you enough for it.
Every time I see you, production night is immediately more comfortable. Your warm presence is
something I will always be grateful for, and your skill and efforts are awe-inspiring. I look forward
to continuing to grow alongside you, even outside The Daily Orange.

Leo Eriman: You have, from day one, been one of the most enthusiastic people I’ve gotten the pleasure of knowing, and I cannot express how much I appreciate the energy you bring to the
Vis room. You’ve got this, Leo, and I’m so, so excited to see what you’ll do as Photo Editor.

Avery Magee: I kind of feel like you were at the house more often than you weren’t. Not only are you one of the most hardworking people I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with, but
you’re also so nice. Thank you so much for all the hard work. It was an absolute pleasure
working with you, and I hope to do so again sometime.

Brycen Pace: Every time we work together, you have a charm that brings energy to the Vis room. Thank you for the hard work and the fun moments.

Lucia: When I say that you were the heart of the Vis room, I mean it. Your presence, your support, the ungodly hours you spent late into the night — I don’t have the words to describe
how much I respect and appreciate you. Every time I came into the House, seeing you there
was a comfort I didn’t realise I needed. You made the Vis room a space that felt like home, and I
can’t thank you enough.

Cole: Your energy is contagious, and I cannot explain how much I appreciate you and your vibrance. Every time I felt downtrodden, your energy picked me right up. Thank you for making
the Vis room such an enjoyable space.

Visuals: Thank you all for being such fantastic coworkers and making the Vis room such a welcoming space. I had so much fun and learned so much, and it was because you all made the
Daily Orange another home away from home. I look forward to seeing what comes next!

Steph: Truly, you were the reason I felt so welcomed in the Daily Orange. From the very first interview I had during the application process, you made the DO feel like a safe place, and it continued that way throughout my time there. You’re a beautiful person and a wonderful
journalist, and I hope you know that. I look forward to seeing how you’ll continue to grow and
find success.

Cooper: Resident D.O. driver!! Mostly joking— but seriously, thank you for always taking time out of your day to get us around Syracuse. It actually took a lot of pressure off, and I always felt like I could step into an assignment with a little less stress than on the days I had to rely on the bus system. On another note, thank you for making the Daily Orange such a welcoming space. You and Steph have always been so supportive, and I cannot express how much I appreciated your enthusiasm.

Ben: Thank you for being such a fantastic Culture editor and wonderful coworker. You are absolutely amazing, and I had such a blast working with you. Every time I took on a culture
assignment, I felt confident because I knew you were there. Working with you and Mia on my
first Culture article was such an enjoyable experience because I knew you had my back.

Mia: I am so so excited for you, and I know you’ll do fantastic things. You’re a wonder, Mia, and I hope you know that I have too few words to describe how much respect I have for you.

Savannah Stewart: I hope you know that I will never stop admiring you. You’re fantastic, and as we’ve said to each other before: I’m so glad I found you.

Culture 2024-2025: You all are absolutely amazing. Thank you so much for a fantastically energetic time in the DO, and I look forward to the future stories!!

Duncan: I truly don’t know how you do it. You’re awe-inspiring and so supportive, and I cannot express how much respect I have for you. Thank you for all the hard work (and late nights). I
know you’re going places.

News 2024-2025: The news section will always have so much of my respect. You all are so on top of things, and I have so much respect for you all. I look forward to seeing what comes next!

James: Thank you for being so kind and welcoming. I’m so excited for you in Dig, and I know you’ll do fantastic things!

Kendall: Thank you for being so welcoming and open to all my ideas. You are so kind, and every time we met, I was struck by how warm you were. You and Rose are wonders.

Rose: I remember the first time I actually went to the Culture room, you were constantly making me laugh. It is one of the core memories I have of the Daily Orange as a place that made me feel welcomed, and I cannot thank you enough for it. You are a wonderful editor and an even
more fantastic person. I know you’ll and Kendall will do absolutely amazing, and I cannot wait to
see how the DO flourishes with you two spearheading the charge.
