Syracuse short stick midfielder Carter Rice was selected No. 29 in the Premier League Lacrosse Draft Tuesday. Rice was the fourth Orange player selected in the draft. He joins midfielder Sam English on the Redwoods after he was picked No. 3, while attack Owen Hiltz went to the Carolina Chaos with the No. 8 pick and defender Michael Grace was selected No. 22 by the New York Atlas.

In four seasons with SU, Rice has played in every game as a short stick midfielder, providing pivotal speed on clears and defensive marking for Syracuse. Across his career so far, he’s picked up 61 ground balls and racked up 22 caused turnovers.

According to Lacrosse Reference, in 2025, his defense earned goals against is in the 81st percentile, his seven caused turnovers this season is in the 93rd percentile and his caused turnover percentage is in the 96th percentile.

Last season, Rice was named a Preseason Inside Lacrosse All-American Honorable Mention and caused a career-high 10 turnovers.

The 5-foot-11, 191 pound Rice was the No. 99 recruit in the class of 2021, per Inside Lacrosse, after he led Boston College High School (Massachusetts) to a Division I State final. His and No. 6 SU’s search for an NCAA Tournament title begins Sunday against Harvard in the first round.
