Syracuse men’s lacrosse tallied eight 2025 Inside Lacrosse All-American selections on Wednesday — tied with Princeton for the most of any program in the country.
Four Orange players made the First and Second Teams, including midfielder Sam English, attack Joey Spallina, midfielder Michael Leo and faceoff specialist John Mullen. Attack Owen Hiltz, goalie Jimmy McCool, defender Billy Dwan III and short-stick defensive midfielder Carter Rice were all named Honorable Mentions.
English headlines the group, earning a First-Team spot amid a do-it-all type season in his fifth and final year of college lacrosse. In his second year with the Orange, English has been deployed all over the field. He’s a first-line two-way midfielder, on both the man-up and man-down units, a winger on faceoffs and a key cog of Syracuse’s clear game.
English has racked up 21 goals, 11 assists, 56 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers — smoothly captaining the Orange all season.
Spallina stands out among SU’s Second-Team selections, improving upon his Inside Lacrosse Third-Team All-American honor last season. The star junior attack leads the team with 81 points, split by 31 goals and 50 assists. His signature moments from this campaign include an 11-point masterclass against Colgate on March 22 and a combined six assists in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament to help Syracuse capture the title.
As for Leo, this is the junior’s second All-American nod after earning an Honorable Mention selection last season. The offensive-minded midfielder has notched a career-best 39 points this year and has taken over 20 more shots than he did in 2024 — showing his increased involvement in SU’s offense. His hat trick versus Virginia on March 29 and then-go-ahead goal in Syracuse’s NCAA Tournament win over Harvard stand out as his best triumphs.
Meanwhile, one could argue Mullen got snubbed from a First-Team selection. He leads the nation with 258 faceoff wins and ranks third in faceoff win percentage (.652), which is two spots higher than North Carolina faceoff man and First-Team All-American Brady Wambach (.643 faceoff rate). The sophomore has put the Orange on his back in his first year as their full-time starter, most recently tallying a 24-of-28 mark at the faceoff X Sunday versus Harvard.
Hiltz is also in the discussion for potential snubs. He’s unleashed a career-best 42 goals — which leads SU — and 67 points thus far in 2025.
