After completing the Big Red Invite on May 4 in Ithaca, New York, Syracuse entered Atlantic Coast Conference playoff competition at the ACC Outdoor Championships Thursday through Saturday in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Julian Franjieh led the Orange in the men’s 3000-meter steeplechase, finishing fourth with a time of 8:52.07. Solomon Holden-Betts followed in ninth place, clocking in at 9:01.10.

In the men’s 10,000-meter race, Sam Lawler and Assaf Harari took home All-ACC honors, with Lawler placing fifth in 29:08.12 and Harari sixth in 29:09.29. Perry Mackinnon and Omar Alsaidi also competed, finishing 12th and 33rd, respectively.

On the women’s side of the event, Emma Eastman secured a fifth-place finish with a time of 33:45.35. Savannah Roark, Rylie Lusk and Nyah Hernandez also donned Orange, placing 12th, 15th and 26th.

In the men’s 110-meter hurdles, Emanuel Joseph set a personal-best of 13.74 seconds in the preliminary race, advancing to the finals, where he finished sixth. Teammates Naseem Smith, Isaiah Lewis, David Peters and Isaiah Hayes followed Joseph, placing 11th, 12th, 16th and 18th.

Two-sport threat Malachi James — who also plays football for SU — advanced to the finals in the men’s 100-meter dash with a time of 10.32 seconds. In the finals, he finished seventh, falling just behind Florida State’s Tyler Azcano.

Iaunia Pointer won her heat in the women’s 200-meter dash prelims with a time of 23.29 seconds, advancing to the finals where she placed fifth.

In the men’s 400-meter hurdles, Xayvion Perkins also advanced to the finals after displaying a time of 51.28 seconds in the prelims. His success resulted in a fifth-place finish with a personal-best time of 50.91 seconds.

Madison Ceasar and Heidi Demeo rounded out SU’s weekend showings, participating in the women’s 400-meter hurdles and 1500-meter run. Both fell just short of final appearances.

The Orange collected seven All-ACC honors, yet it wasn’t enough to contend with the conference’s best. Syracuse ends its ACC Outdoor Championship run with its men’s squad finishing in 15th place while its women finished 17th.
