Former Texas wide receiver Johntay Cook II has transferred to Syracuse, 247Sports reported Thursday. Cook was 247Sports’ 38th best prospect in the Class of 2023, but accumulated just 16 receptions for 273 yards across two seasons at Texas. Inside Texas reported Cook was no longer with the Longhorns on Nov. 7, 2024.

“(Cook II is) moving on and we wish him the best,” Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian told the Houston Chronicle.

The DeSoto, Texas, native then committed to Washington on Dec. 28, 2024. However, he was dismissed from the program on Jan. 14. Dave Mahler reported “Cook committed multiple violations of team rules and insubordination.” On3’s Pete Nakos reported the wide receiver “was on campus for roughly 48 hours before the decision was made” to part ways.

After re-entering the portal, Cook was arrested twice in February. First, he was arrested for property theft charges and interference with public duties. Cook was then arrested a second time and charged with marijuana possession.

Cook now joins a Syracuse wide receiver room of Darrell Gill Jr., Justus Ross-Simmons and Emanuel Ross. The Orange recently lost expected leading receiver Trebor Peña to Penn State, while Oronde Gadsden II and Jackson Meeks are now in the NFL.
