Syracuse men’s lacrosse midfielder Jackson Birtwistle has entered the transfer portal, Inside Lacrosse reported on Tuesday. Birtwistle played in 43 games at SU from 2022-25 and scored 59 points, including a career-high 27 in 2023. He has one year of Division I eligibility left and enters the portal as a graduate transfer.

Birtwistle missed most of this past season due to a lower-body injury he suffered against Harvard on Feb. 22. Before the injury, the redshirt senior tallied three goals and one assist in five games, mainly playing on Syracuse’s man-up unit.

After redshirting in 2021, Birtwistle excelled as a depth piece in 2022, racking up 14 goals in seven contests. He steadily progressed the following season with a 27-goal 2023 campaign, in which he ranked second on the Orange in goals.

He never saw quite the same production, though. In 2024, Birtwistle posted 12 goals and two assists in 16 games, a season where transfer midfielders like Jake Stevens and Sam English carved out larger roles than him. Birtwistle also assumed a limited role in 2025 before his season was cut short.

Birtwistle is the fifth SU player to hit the portal this offseason, joining long-stick midfielder Kyle Gonsiorek, midfielder Finn Kelly — who transferred to Tampa, per Inside Lacrosse — faceoff specialist Paul Lamonaca and goalie Kyle Rolley. Former Ohio State short-stick defensive midfielder Dante Bowen is Syracuse’s lone summer transfer portal addition thus far. The summer transfer portal closes on Monday.
