Syracuse field hockey is set to retire Alyssa Manley’s No. 5 jersey, the program announced Tuesday. The ceremony will take place on Sept. 26, when SU takes on Duke at J.S. Coyne Stadium.
Manley will become just the second SU field hockey player to have her jersey retired, joining Julie Williamson, who had her number retired in 2022.
Manley played for the Orange from 2012 to 2015, primarily starring as a defensive-minded midfielder. She racked up 18 career goals and 24 career assists, being named to the All-America First Team in 2014 and 2015, as well as the All-America Third Team in 2013.
In 2015, Manley won ACC Defensive Player of the Year and led Syracuse to its first-ever Division I women’s national title. She was named the Honda Award Recipient in 2015, given to the nation’s top collegiate field hockey player, and was named a finalist for the Collegiate Athlete Woman of the Year award.
Manley was also a mainstay in the United States Women’s National Team, where she appeared in the 2016 Summer Olympics. She helped the U.S. capture a gold medal in 2015 Pan American Games and a bronze medal in the 2016 Champions Trophy.
