SU announces faculty members for Honors program working group

Syracuse University announced the members of the working group that will lead a “comprehensive review” of the Renée Crown University Honors Program this semester.

The group consists of dean or faculty representatives from the schools that participate in the honors program, according to a Wednesday release.

Led by Interim Director Laura Machia, the group will identify ways to “better link” the program to areas outlined in SU’s academic strategic plan, review the program curriculum, propose a governance structure, find strategies to encourage faculty engagement and determine how thesis requirements can “better accommodate students.”

Elisa Dekaney, associate provost for strategic initiatives, and Jamie Winders, vice provost for faculty affairs, are the group’s co-chairs.

The full working group includes:

  • Amber Anand, Edward Pettinella Professor of Finance in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management
  • Kelly Chandler-Olcott, School of Education Dean
  • Daniel Hebert, assistant teaching professor in the College of Professional Studies
  • Molly Hunker, associate professor in the School of Architecture
  • Seth Jolly, associate professor and chair of political science in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs
  • Wendy Moy, associate professor of music in the College of Visual and Performing Arts
  • Rebecca Ortiz, associate professor of advertising in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications
  • Steven Sawyer, professor in the School of Information Studies
  • Kay Stearns Bruening, associate professor of nutrition and food studies in the Falk College of Sport
  • Pun To (Douglas) Yung, teaching professor and biomedical engineering undergraduate program director in the College of Engineering and Computer Science

The group will submit its final report by the end of the semester.
