Syracuse competes at Princeton Fall Classic, Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational

Syracuse cross country competed in both the Princeton Fall Classic in New Jersey and the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational Friday. The men — currently ranked No. 11 in the USTFCCCA Poll — earned a top-three finish in the latter event, besting four teams ranked ahead of them in the polls.
At Princeton, the women finished 19th out of the 25 teams in its field on the 6K course. Their best finish came from sophomore Ole Miss transfer Alycia Hart, who placed 79th in only her second race with the Orange. Redshirt junior Beatriz Fernandes finished second on the team with a 90th-place finish.
She bested sophomore Lauren Augustyn by less than a second, who finished third on the team in 92nd. The two other scoring finishes came from Mackenzie Cook and Sarah Lawson, who placed 103rd and 109th.
The men’s team ran the course soon after, finishing sixth out of 31 teams on the 8K course. Redshirt freshman Sam Ricchiuti led the way in 22nd, followed by Ruben Rojas Betanzos in 33rd. Omar Alsaidi was a couple seconds behind in 37th, while redshirt freshmen Asher Danielson and Drew Zundell rounded out the group in 45th and 98th.
Later, the Orange competed in the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational in Madison, Wisconsin. The women ran first, finishing 23rd out of 30 schools on the 6K course. Sophomore Selma Anderson led the way for SU in 52nd, while redshirt senior Emma Eastman finished in 78th. Fellow redshirt seniors Madeline Heintz and Nyah Hernandez finished in 114th and 157th, and Jayden Harberts notched Syracuse’s final scoring time with a 163rd-place finish.
In the men’s 8K course, Syracuse finished third of 32 teams in its field. Redshirt senior Sam Lawler finished in 12th, and senior Assaf Harari just trailed him in 17th. Junior Matthew Neill finished in 36th, redshirt senior Peter Walsdorf placed 39th and Ben Gabelman closed the group with a 48th-place finish.
The Orange return to action next week, when they trek to Ithaca to compete in the John Reif Memorial hosted by Cornell.
