SU men’s cross country finishes 2nd, women’s places 13th at ACC Championships

Syracuse cross country ran in the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships Friday in Louisville. The men’s team finished second, and the women’s team placed 13th.
Redshirt senior Sam Lawler set the tone in the men’s 8K, finishing eighth with a time of 22:55.8. Less than five seconds later, senior Assaf Harari placed 11th. Redshirt senior Peter Walsdorf finished in 14th with a time of 23:02.1, and redshirt sophomore Benne Anderson finished in 15th. The final scoring time for the Orange came from junior Matthew Neill, who finished in 17th. The Orange just fell short of Virginia by four points. The best time in the event came from Wake Forest’s Rocky Hansen, who posted a time of 22:18.6.
The women’s team placed 13th of 18 teams, as ACC foe NC State finished first. Sophomore Selma Anderson had the best time for the Orange, finishing 20th in the 6K (20:01.7). In her final ACC Championship event, redshirt senior Maddie Heintz finished in 68th with a time of 20:46.0. Less than a second behind her was fellow redshirt senior Emma Eastman, who finished in 69th. Nyah Hernandez finished in 74th with a time of 20:55.7, while sophomore Jayden Harberts rounded out Syracuse’s scoring, finishing in 101st. NC State’s Angelina Napoleon placed first overall, finishing in 19:13.9.
Both teams have a week off to prepare for regionals on Nov. 14. The top two finishers at regionals automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships on Nov. 22.
