Syracuse University is partnering with the National Hockey League and its Player Development program, the league announced Tuesday.
Players and their families will have access to several graduate and undergraduate programs at substantial discounts to enhance their careers off the ice. Syracuse’s Falk College of Sport led the multi-year agreement. Dean Jeremy Jordan said classes will also be available in Newhouse School of Public Communications, Martin J. Whitman School of Management and College of Professional Studies.
“By partnering with a learning institution of Syracuse University’s caliber, the NHL has been able to add yet another valuable Player Development offering to assist Players with furthering their educational goals,” NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said in Tuesday’s release.
Areas of study include business management, creative leadership, liberal studies and policy studies, among others.
Players will have access to SU’s alumni network, which features professionals in the sports, broadcast and business industries. The university is expected to aid participants with admission and academic advice to meet their desired post-playing career goals.
“This exemplifies our mission to create meaningful connections between academic learning and professional practice,” Jordan said.
Other universities have bound to this agreement with the NHL, including Boston College and Southern New Hampshire University.
The deal adds to a lengthy list of professional leagues the Falk College has partnered with, including Major League Baseball and Major League Soccer, which completed a deal 12 days ago.
