Syracuse senior guard J.J. Starling was named to the Preseason All-Atlantic Coast Conference Second Team, the conference announced Tuesday.

Starling averaged a career-high 17.8 points per game last season to pair with 3.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists. A Baldwinsville, New York native, Starling transferred to Syracuse in 2023 after spending one season at Notre Dame. He averaged 13.3 points for the Orange as a sophomore on 45.8% shooting from the field and 32.4% shooting from 3, both career-bests.

As SU’s new No. 1 option, Starling started the 2024-25 season scorching hot. He averaged 19.8 points per game through Syracuse’s first six contests before a hand injury kept him out for a chunk of the campaign.

Starling returned in January as one of SU’s few creators on the perimeter. He continued to lead the Orange in scoring, dropping eight more games of 20-plus points before SU was eliminated in the second round of the ACC Tournament.

In March, Starling and sophomore forward Donnie Freeman announced they’d return to Syracuse for the 2025-26 season. Now, as a senior, Starling hopes to lead the Orange to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in four years.
