Syracuse setter and right-side hitter Veronica Sierzant will miss the rest of the season with a shin fracture, she announced on social media Wednesday. Sierzant last appeared for the Orange in their loss to then-No. 6 Louisville on Sept. 28.

Sierzant’s 2025 campaign comes to a close with 66 assists, 45 kills and 18 blocks across 10 appearances. After playing at least two sets in each match during her first two years at SU, head coach Bakeer Ganesharatnam used the junior less this year for strategic purposes.

Last year, Sierzant led the Orange in assists with 659, but that pace dipped when Tehya Maeva transferred to SU. Ganesharatnam says Syracuse plays in the 5-1 for 90% of the time, but that hasn’t stopped him from playing Sierzant, given her positional flexibility.

Unlike their outside hitters and middle blockers, setters and right-side hitters are sparse positions for the Orange. Piper Willinger is the only other setter on SU’s roster, adding more weight to Maeva’s shoulders.

Sydnie Waller will likely be an every-point right-side hitter for the remainder of the season, and Elizabeth Turner is primed for an expanded role.

Sierzant is one of the team’s longest-tenured players alongside Waller and Zharia Harris-Waddy, having played all three years of her collegiate career at SU.
