Four-star safety Tedarius Hughes has flipped his commitment from Florida State to Syracuse, he announced on social media Tuesday. Hughes is Florida’s No. 56 prospect, per 247Sports, and SU’s third commit from the state in the 2026 class.

With his 6-foot-3 frame, Hughes received offers from top programs in his home state as well as multiple Big Ten and SEC squads. He committed to the Seminoles in July 2024, but flipped to the Orange as FSU head coach Mike Norvell faces an uncertain future.

Hughes currently attends Northwestern High School in Miami, Florida, the same school as SU five-star commit Calvin Russell. The Orange boasts several school alumni on their 2025 roster, including Darius “Boobie” Johnson, Eric Thomas and DeAngelo Thompson. All three are freshmen.

The commitment from Hughes is Syracuse’s 30th in the 2026 class, and shoots its ranking up to No. 23 in the nation. SU’s class also ranks fifth in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
