Syracuse women’s cross country missed the National Championships for the first time in five seasons Saturday.

On Friday, the men’s cross country team qualified for the National Championship by winning the NCAA Northeast Regionals. The women’s team finished fourth, meaning their hopes of clinching a fifth consecutive championship depended on the NCAA Cross Country Selection committee, who handed out 14 at-large bids today. The women entered Friday’s race ranked second in the region but couldn’t hold onto their spot.

Sophomore Selma Anderson did automatically qualify individually after finishing fourth in Friday’s race. She’s the only member of the women’s team that will race next Saturday.

The National Championships will take place on Nov. 22 in Columbia, Missouri, where the Orange ran in late September.
