Syracuse freshman Ava Drabyk earned Atlantic Hockey America’s Goaltender of the Week honors, the conference announced Tuesday. The award comes after her steady performance across SU’s last three contests, notching a 96.7% save percentage with 89 stops.
Drabyk stopped all but one of RPI’s 25 attempts in Friday’s 3-1 victory and earned her second-career shutout in Saturday’s 3-0 win, thwarting 17 of the Engineers’ shots on goal. In a 2-2 tie with then-No. 5 Cornell last Tuesday, she had a career-high 48 saves.
Drabyk’s off to a strong start in her freshman season with a 92.1% save percentage and 2.59 goals against average, both ranking fifth-best in the AHA. This past week marked her highest save rate across a three-game stretch this season.
Questions arose regarding who could replace program great Allie Kelley’s production in net ahead of the campaign. So far, Drabyk has shut them down.
The netminder’s already earned her third award this season, having previously earned another Goaltender of the Week honor and a Rookie of the Week award. Drabyk is tied with No. 4 Penn State’s Katie DeSa for the most AHA honors by a goaltender this campaign.
