Syracuse wide receiver Emanuel Ross plans to enter the transfer portal, he announced on social media Sunday. Ross spent two seasons with the Orange, registering 15 catches and 188 yards in 10 games. He has three years of eligibility remaining. Ross is the second SU wide receiver that will enter the portal, joining Jaylan Hornsby.
Ross came to Syracuse as a three-star recruit — according to 247Sports — out of Red Bank Catholic (New Jersey), where he recorded 92 catches for 1,616 yards and 26 touchdowns. After initially committing to Stanford, Ross flipped to Syracuse following Fran Brown’s arrival in central New York.
The wide receiver’s opportunities at Syracuse were sporadic. Ross sat behind Jackson Meeks and Trebor Peña in 2024 and ended up redshirting. This season, Johntay Cook, Darrell Gill and Justus Ross-Simmons took up most of the snaps. Even with that, SU’s passing attack struggled once quarterback Steve Angeli got injured.
In 2025, Ross was limited due to injuries. He appeared in just six games, with his last one coming on Oct. 31 against North Carolina, where he had just one catch for eight yards. Ross’ best game with Syracuse came on Sept. 27 against Duke, recording five catches for 57 yards, which was over half his production this year.
As a highly-touted recruit, Ross has NFL aspirations. Now he’ll have to try to accomplish that goal elsewhere.
“I just really loved football since I was young,” Ross told The Daily Orange on Nov. 4. “I’m a perfectionist with all this. You can never stop getting better. So that’s kind of my thing. I just always want to strive to be the best I could possibly be.”
