Donnie Freeman has been ruled out for Syracuse’s matchup vs. No. 17 Tennessee Tuesday, an SU spokesperson told The Daily Orange. Freeman missed all three of the Orange’s losses in the Players Era Festival with a lower-body injury after scoring a team-high 17.8 points per game across their 4-0 start.

In Las Vegas, an SU spokesperson told The D.O. that Freeman sustained his injury in Syracuse’s win over Monmouth, the injury isn’t related to his right foot injury from last year and there was no timeline beyond that he’d be reevaluated when the team returned to Syracuse.

Head coach Adrian Autry said after the Orange’s loss to No. 3 Houston that Freeman’s injury isn’t season-ending and he anticipates the forward will be back soon. After Syracuse lost to No. 15 Iowa State two days later, Autry said he had no updates but reiterated that he didn’t expect the absence to be too long.

With Freeman sidelined, SU lost three crucial Quad 1 games. Now, in their final nonconference Quad 1 game, the Orange will again be without Freeman. A loss to the Volunteers would put Syracuse’s back against the wall in returning to the NCAA Tournament.
