Vince Kehres has recruited another former Toledo player to join his defense at Syracuse, as defensive back Amare Snowden transferred to the Orange Sunday, per 247Sports.
Snowden, a former three-star prospect from Roseville, Michigan, enters SU with two years of eligibility remaining. He is expected to play safety under Kehres — Syracuse’s freshly-hired defensive coordinator. The Orange lost safety duo Devin Grant and Duce Chestnut to graduation and the 6-foot-4, 210-pound Snowden could be in the mix to replace either of them.
Snowden began his career at Wisconsin in 2024 and barely saw the field. Then in the 2025 campaign, after transferring to Toledo, he did not play for the Rockets due to injury. Now, he’ll have the chance to maximize his development under Kehres, but this time in central New York.
In Kehres’ tenure at Toledo, where he ran its defense from 2020-25, he coached NFL defensive backs such as Philadelphia Eagles star cornerback Quinyon Mitchell, who recently earned First-Team All-Pro honors for the 2025 season.
Kehres’ newest project, Snowden, joins linebacker Chris D’Appolonia as the two former Toledo players to join his new defensive group in Syracuse so far.
Time will tell if Kehres can bring in more of his guys from the Rockets who are searching for new homes.
