Former Maryland defensive lineman Dillan Fontus transferred to Syracuse, multiple outlets reported Saturday. Fontus recorded two sacks and 28 tackles in his junior campaign for the Terrapins.
The Orange were among Fontus’s top seven, according to an Instagram post on Jan. 5, that included Oklahoma, South Carolina, Wisconsin, Alabama, Kentucky and Mississippi State. Fontus is a Brooklyn, New York, native and previously selected the Terrapins over offers from Penn State, Indiana and others as a three-star recruit.
Fontus’s best game of the 2025 season came against then-No. 2 Indiana, which is now one game away from an undefeated season and national title. Fontus recorded seven tackles despite Maryland falling by 45 points.
At 6-foot-6, 292 pounds, Fontus adds size to Syracuse’s rebuilt defensive line. The Orange added Jartavius Flounoy from Georgia State on the interior and four-star recruit Alexander Haskell. SU also made a splash late Friday night with the addition of outside linebacker Keyshawn Johnson.
