Former Penn State wide receiver Matt Outten has committed to Syracuse, 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz reported Monday. Outten didn’t appear in a game for the Nittany Lions this season, who fired head coach James Franklin in October.
Outten is the third wide receiver to transfer to Syracuse this offseason, joining former Miami University (Ohio) product Cole Weaver and Florida State transfer Elijah Moore. Syracuse lost plenty of receiving production in the portal this year, with Johntay Cook, Darrell Gill Jr., Emanuel Ross and Jaylan Hornsby all departing the program. The Orange also brought in five-star recruit Calvin Russell Jr., along with four-star Amare Gough.
A Portsmouth, Virginia native, Outten attended I.C. Norcom High School, where he developed into the 196th-best prospect in the 2025 recruiting class, according to 247Sports. Outten nearly committed to Syracuse out of high school, but chose the Nittany Lions ahead of the Orange.
Outten’s impact was limited with the Nittany Lions, which led him to entering the transfer portal on Jan 8. In July 2024, Outten committed to Virginia Tech, but decommitted two months later. Even with Franklin getting hired at Virginia Tech, Outten chose Syracuse.
