Former Iowa State and UCLA offensive lineman Oluwafunto Akinshilo transferred to Syracuse, 247Sports reported Friday. Akinshilo enters his sixth college season after starting out at El Camino College in 2021.

On the final day of the transfer portal, Akinshilo is SU’s only addition on the offensive line. The Orange heavily prioritized the defensive trenches, wide receiver corps and quarterback room.

A 6-foot-5, 325-pound lineman out of Lawndale, California, Akinshilo began his college career at the JUCO level, playing 11 games at El Camino College. He transferred to Iowa State and redshirted in 2022 before not seeing game action in 2023. After transferring again, this time to UCLA, he didn’t appear in a game in 2024. Akinshilo then earned his playing time in 2025 as a backup offensive lineman, appearing in all 12 games largely on special teams.

New Syracuse offensive line coach Juan Castillo worked with Akinshilo in 2024 with the Bruins and will be tested to develop existing talent. The Orange brought in three-star recruits Javeion Cooper and Jojo White to bolster a unit with returning starters like Trevion Mack, Byron Washington and Joe Cruz.
