Call it intuition, call it sheer luck. But Crabs Lacrosse head coach Ryan McClernan knew something, or at least he was acting like he did.
One day, he approached Harry Schniedwind — one of his players and a class of 2026 four-star recruit — and asked him a simple question.
“Hey, is Syracuse on your radar?”
Schniedwind didn’t have to blink. He immediately told McClernan he would love to join the Orange. The question made Schniedwind think Syracuse had reached out to his club coach, boosting the Orange to the top of his list.
On Sept. 1, 2024 — when college programs can first contact prospective recruits — the Orange reached out to Schniedwind. Two weeks later, Inside Lacrosse’s No. 43-ranked 2026 recruit officially committed to SU. With the decision, Schniedwind strengthened a pipeline of Syracuse players hailing from McDonogh High School (Maryland).
This season, former McDonogh midfielder Bogue Hahn will join the Orange for his freshman campaign. Similar to Schniedwind, Hahn was a highly touted recruit, ranked No. 17 in the class of 2025 by Inside Lacrosse.
So, when Schniedwind committed to the Orange, the pair immediately connected.
“I’ve always really looked up to Bogue. I think he’s one of the hardest workers I’ve ever met,” Schniedwind said. “But really, when I committed, we became really, really close. Last year, our relationship developed a lot, and it definitely helped us on the field too.”

Hahn initially committed to the Orange on Sept. 22, 2023. He was a captain at McDonogh, an All-Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association Team selection and a key piece in McDonogh’s unprecedented run of reaching three consecutive MIAA championships. He began playing at the varsity level as a freshman and never looked back. Scouts raved about his motor and effort level, which complement his scoring and offensive prowess, according to Inside Lacrosse.
While Hahn certainly amassed an impressive statistical record, with 166 points across four seasons, his priority was winning. Schniedwind has compiled impressive personal stats, but both midfielders share the ultimate goal of claiming championships.
Though the Eagles fell short of a fourth consecutive MIAA championship in 2025, the team brings sky-high expectations into Schniedwind’s senior year. Hahn’s Syracuse squad does as well, coming off its first Final Four appearance in over a decade.
“It’s clear both programs put a heavy emphasis on tradition and excellence,” said Wes Schniedwind, Schniedwind’s father.
After committing to Syracuse, Schniedwind continued to follow in Hahn’s footsteps as one of McDonogh’s three captains for 2026. Though the role currently consists of sending team emails for offseason workouts and pre-class practices led by the captain trio, Schniedwind’s expected to carry that authority into the season.
“I really couldn’t have done it without (past captains),” Schniedwind said. “(There was) just a lot of mentorship from the guys that are older than me.”
Hahn and Schniedwind aren’t McDonogh’s only captains recently pursued by top programs. Former McDonogh attack Brenden Millon, Inside Lacrosse’s No. 1 recruit in the class of 2025, is expected to start at Virginia this spring. McDonogh’s third captain from last season, five-star goaltender Aidan Seibel, will look to fill the shoes of graduated Maryland goalie Logan McNaney.
And just like Hahn and Schniedwind, they were all top recruits developed at McDonogh — and they both can make an instant impact at Syracuse.
“You can tell Bogue is super quiet, but he’s a competitor,” McDonogh head coach Travis Holmes said. “Harry brings that same attitude to everything he does. That’s the biggest comparison for me, is just their mentality (and) their mindset of being defiant.”
